Hitched to everything else

by Jennifer Celio, april 9th - may 21st

Jennifer Celio’s exhibition “Hitched to everything else” explores the concept of identity construct through integration of personal experiences, images, and stories that are recalled or kept buried deep within the fascinating mechanisms of our memory banks. The title of the exhibit is an excerpt from the writings of the Scottish-American naturalist and author John Muir, who mused “When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.” This examination of her personal narrative occurs via internalized visual vocabulary from a myriad of external sources and influences. The resulting work, connecting the past with the present, projects an interior landscape

constructed from the memories of personal experiences, while acknowledging that memories are often assembled as we choose them to be, idealized or otherwise.
